Crochet your own stylish and functional farmers’ market tote with this easy DIY pattern! Perfect for carrying fresh produce, this lightweight yet sturdy mesh bag is a must-have for market trips.

Instructions:

Step 1: Sturdy Base (Oval Bottom)

  1. Foundation: Ch 31.
  2. Round 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and across (30 hdc). Work 3 hdc in last ch, turn to work along the other side of the chain, hdc in each st across, and 3 hdc in last st. Join with sl st to first hdc. (Total: 66 hdc)
  3. Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, placing 2 sc in each of the three corner stitches on both ends. Join with sl st. (Total: 72 sc)
  4. Round 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st. (Total: 72 sc)
  5. Round 4: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in each st around. Join.

Note: You can repeat additional rounds to make a deeper solid base before starting the mesh sides.


Step 2: Mesh Body

  1. Round 5: Ch 4 (counts as 1 dc + ch 1), sk 1 st, dc in next st, ch 1, sk 1 st, dc in next st around. Join with sl st into the 3rd ch of starting ch-4.
  2. Round 6-20 (or desired height): Sl st into next ch-1 space. Ch 4, dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, dc in next ch-1 space around. Join with sl st.

Step 3: Sturdy Top Edge

  1. Round 21: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st.
  2. Round 22: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join.

Step 4: Handles

  1. Round 23: Ch 1, sc in first 12 sts, ch 50 (handle), sk next 12 sts, sc in next 24 sts, ch 50 (second handle), sk next 12 sts, sc to end. Join.
  2. Round 24: Sc in each st and along each handle chain to reinforce. Join.
  3. Fasten off, weave in ends.
