Meatloaf is a tried-and-true comfort food, but let’s be honest—sometimes it needs a little something extra. That’s where a preserve glaze comes in! Instead of the usual ketchup topping, this recipe takes things up a notch with a sweet and tangy layer of fruit preserves. It caramelizes beautifully in the oven, adding a delicious contrast to the rich, savory meatloaf. Whether you’re using apricot, fig, or raspberry preserves, this twist is a total game-changer.

Recipe: Preserve-Glazed Meatloaf

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with milk and let sit for a few minutes to soften.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Mix until just combined—don’t overwork it!
  4. Shape the mixture into a loaf on the prepared baking sheet or press it into a loaf pan.
  5. In another small bowl, whisk together the fruit preserves, Dijon mustard, and balsamic vinegar.
  6. Spread half of the preserve glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  7. Bake for 40 minutes, then spread the remaining glaze on top.
  8. Bake for another 15–20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  9. Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with your favorite sides.
